Joe Bologna; the amazing and talented actor known for his roles in The Woman in Red, Transylvania 6-500,  and My Favorite Year (with Peter O’Toole), died from pancreatic cancer on August 13, 2017, at the age of 82. He is survived by his beloved wife, actress Renee Taylor famous for her role as Sylvia Fine on the t.v series The Nanny, mother of their son Gabriel Bologna, actor, director and filmmaking professor at UCLA.



Brooklyn native Joe Bologna was born on December 30, 1934. He graduated with a major in art history from Brown University, before serving a tour of duty with the United States Marine Corps.

Married to the Love of His Life

He made his acting debut in the 1971 film Made For Each Other alongside his wife actress Renee Taylor. Renee and Joe got married on August 7, 1965, worked together several times.

Together they co-wrote the sitcom Annie in 1971, in 1968 they write Lovers and Other Strangers; he appeared twice on her show The Nanny;  in 2001 they appeared together in If You Ever Leave Me, I’m Coming With You, the played inspired in their marriage  was performed at the Cort Theater in New York. Furthermore,  they worked in Tango Shalom, incidentally directed by their son.

Joe and Renee welcomed their son Gabriel Niccolo Bologna on April 1, 1969. Like his famous parents, Gabriel Bologna got into show business.

As noted, Gabriel, an actor, a director is also the protégée of director John Frankenheimer. Initially starred in an array of films and t.v shows. To name a few, we can tell you that he appeared in Mixed Company; Cops and Robbers; Charles In Charge; Renegade; For The Boys;

Behind the camera; he directed The Black Waters Of Echo’s Pond, in 2010; subsequently directed African Gothic; Buds for Life in 2004; 30,000 League Under the Sea in 2007; Boston Girls in 2010, moreover worked with his parents directing Tango Shalom, this year.

Gabriel Bologna and ex-wife Athena Ashburn tied the knot in 1999; however, the marriage didn’t work out and eventually divorced two years later. They had one son together. She is nowadays married to Matthews Ashburn.
