He is the youngest of three brothers, with his siblings being Craig and Scott Blenkhorn. Born to Doris May Moore and Frank Millar Blenkhorn, a Canadian of English, Scottish, and German descent, Barry grew up in Pacific Palisades, California, where he was neighbors with actor Peter Graves.

From a young age, Barry knew he wanted to become an actor. His television debut came in 1967 when he starred in a Christmas episode of Dragnet 1967. However, he’s best known for his role as Greg Brady, the eldest son on the 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch.

In addition to his role on The Brady Bunch, Barry also secured guest spots on various TV shows, including Adam-12, The Invaders, That Girl, Mission: Impossible, The Mod Squad, Here Come the Brides, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., and Bartleby, the Scrivener. His casting as Greg Brady came in 1969, marking a significant point in his acting career.

After The Brady Bunch ended in 1974, Barry Williams continued his acting career with numerous guest roles on television and made a name for himself in musical theater. His performances included touring productions of beloved musicals such as Grease, The Sound of Music, Pippin, and West Side Story.

In 1988, he graced the Broadway stage in the musical Romance/Romance alongside Tony Award nominee Alison Fraser, taking over the role of “Alfred/Sam” from Scott Bakula. Over time, Williams managed to leverage his typecasting as Greg Brady, which led to a variety of TV and film appearances that played on his famous role. In 1984, he took on a different character, playing the English con man Hannibal on the popular show General Hospital.

Williams has also been involved in various Brady Bunch reunion projects, including the 1988 holiday movie, A Very Brady Christmas. In recognition of his portrayal of Greg Brady, he received the Former Child Star “Lifetime Achievement” Award from the Young Artist Foundation in 1989.

In 1992, Williams’ autobiography, Growing Up Brady: I Was A Teenage Greg, co-written with Chris Kreski, became a New York Times bestseller. It was later adapted into a 2000 TV movie, with Adam Brody portraying Williams.

Throughout his career, Williams has showcased his versatility in various ways, including singing a parody of Eminem’s “The Real Slim Shady,” titled “The Real Greg Brady.” He also made an appearance in Peter Gabriel’s music video for “The Barry Williams Show” in 2002.

Aside from acting and singing, Williams has demonstrated his dancing skills at the World’s Largest Disco in Buffalo, New York. From 2001 to 2002, he starred as Dean “The Machine” Strickland in the sitcom Hollywood 7, which featured British pop group S Club 7.

Williams has also been open about his struggles with alcohol, appearing in the VH1 series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew in 2008 to share his experiences. In 2010, he starred in the mockbuster Mega Piranha alongside former teen pop sensation Tiffany.

Following the passing of Florence Henderson in 2016, Williams became the oldest living cast member from The Brady Bunch.
