Burke Ramsey is the older brother of late beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey. His sister’s murder in 1996 led to one of the most publicized police investigations of the 1990s and it continues to generate media attention.
Burke Ramsey was also considered a possible suspect by media and was later asked to testify at a grand jury hearing. Now a 29-year-old Burke, has decided to speak out on what has been like living with his sister’s ghost, in an exclusive interview with Dr. Phil.
Burke Ramsey was born January 27, 1987, he was nine at the time of his sister’s tragic death.
It’s been two decades since the unsolved death of the 6-year-old beauty queen. The body of Burke’s little sister was found by their father at the family’s home on December 26, 1996. JonBenet who laid dead in the basement, had been hit in the head and strangled.
Her parents, Patsy and john Ramsey as well as older brother, Burke Ramsey, remained in the eye of authorities as suspects in the murder case.
Burke Ramsey was always protected by his parents who stood firm on the fact that Burke was sleeping the entire time and was exonerated by DNA evidence in May, 1999.
Their mother, Patsy Ramsey died of ovarian cancer on June 24, 2006, at the age of 49. In 2008, new DNA technology cleared all members of her family. In 2010, police sought to re-interview Burke Ramsey as they continued to investigate JonBenet’s death.
Theories of how Burke had become tired of living under the shadow of a pampered JonBenet suggested he killed her in a jealous rage.
Over the years many have been the suspects in the unspeakable crime of Burkes’ sister, but they’ve all been cleared, including himself and both of his parents.
Burke has opted to live a low profile over the past decade until now. He is said to work in the “technology” industry.
Burke Ramsey and JonBenet were the only children of Patsy and John Ramsey. However, Burke has three half-siblings from his father’s first marriage.
Elizabeth Pasch Ramsey, Melinda Ramsey and John Andrew Ramsey are the children of John Ramsey and his first wife, Lucinda Pasch.
Both John Andrew and Melinda were interviewed as possible suspects in the murder and were cleared. Elizabeth Pasch Ramsey, died in a 1992 car accident at the age of 22.
The three-part interview with Dr. Phil will air on September 12.
