Sasha and Theo Spielberg- Steven Spielberg Children make it into the spotlight

Let’s meet the sister-brother duo known as Wardell! They might be relatively new to the music scene but this folk duo sings the kind of catchy nostalgia-pop that will make you play them all the time. Plus a little help from their famous last name doesn’t hurt.

They are Sasha and Theo Spielberg and yep they are kids of consecrated film director and Oscar winner Steven Spielberg and actress Kate Capshaw.

Sasha Rebecca Spielberg who was born May 14, 1990 started her career as an actress, making small appearances in daddy’s movies, including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and The Terminal.

The 23-year-old attended Brown University in Rhode Island and while Sasha set up her mind to pursue music after hearing Christina Aguilera’s Stripped and also Janis Joplin’s Pearl; Theo was caught up in the music world by  The Strokes’ Is This It.

When Teen vogue asked her:

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Sasha: Miguel!

What albums or songs do you have on heavy rotation right now?
Sasha: “Eat the Music” by Kate Bush.

Who (or what!) influences your sound the most?
Sasha: At the risk of sounding corny, the beach and the ocean are such a constant part of Los Angeles life, so that definitely seeps into our music. Classical music as well—they really knew what they were doing back then. Being moody is also a good path to a nice song.

What’s been your biggest oh-my-gosh-this-is-really-happening moment?
Sasha: Playing with Vampire Weekend and Haim at Stubbs during SXSW.

What’s it like to perform and write music with your sibling?
Sasha: It’s pretty rad. The amount of inside jokes between us has skyrocketed, and we finally learned how to pronounce each other’s names.

Theo was born August 21, 1988 and he was adopted by Capshaw before her marriage to Spielberg but the director later also adopted him.

According to the NY times, when Theo Spielberg decided it was time to get serious about starting a rock group, he only had to look across the hallway of his family’s home to find a lead singer.

Their band was previously known as “Brother/Sister”

With Theo on instruments and Sasha handling vocals, the siblings collaborate on the writing process and come up with their own creations.

Their parents married in 1991 and have seven children in total; Jessica Capshaw who was born August 9, 1976; Max Samuel Spielberg born June 13, 1985; Sawyer Avery Spielberg born March 10, 1992; Mikaela George born February 28, 1996; Destry Allyn Spielberg born December 1, 1996 plus Theo and Sasha.

Pagesix says, a proud father, Steven was spotted in the DJ booth at Brooklyn Bowl on Friday, watching his kids Theo and Sasha perform as the band Wardell.

The indie-folk duo signed earlier this year with Jay Z’s Roc Nation management group.
