Karen Helus
Karen Helus is the devastated wife of slain Sergeant, Ron Helus –who was killed in a California mass shooting and is being hailed a hero.
Karen’s husband was a 29-year-veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. According to reports, Ronald Lee Helus born in 1964 –was hoping to retire from law enforcement next year.
Helus responded to the shooting taking place at a bar at 99 Rolling Oaks Drive in Thousand Oaks. He immediately made entry into the bar and confronted the shooter but was shot and severely wounded.
He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his wounds. At least 13 others were also shot and killed in the incident, including the gunman; and 10-15 more were injured. The shooting took place at Borderline Bar & Grill.
According to a LinkedIn profile, Ron Helus earned his master’s degree in administrative leadership from the University of Oklahoma. He also did firearms training work on the side.
During a briefing early Thursday morning, Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said of Helus “Ron was a hardworking dedicated sheriff’s sergeant,” “He was totally committed. He gave his all. Tonight, as I told his wife, he died a hero because he went in to save lives, to save other people.”
Sgt. Ron Helus is survived by his wife, Karen and their adult son. The Times reports that Helus called his family before going inside the bar. It is not clear what was said during their last conversation.
Karen D Helus was born in 1964, she is 54-years-old. It is believed the couple’s son is 24-year-old Jordan T Helus.
According to her social media, Karen attended Agoura High School and subsequently studied Health Science at Pierce College. She is a former Chiropractic Assistant (CA) at Agoura Family Chiropractic.
Karen Helus is currently listed as a Director at doTERRA Essential Oils.
The family are residents of the West Hills, California neighborhood.
