Kelly Ojeda is the wife of Richard Ojeda, currently a candidate for District 7 of the West Virginia State Senate. Just two days before the primary election takes place on May 10, 2016, a vicious attack puts the war veteran running for a state senate in the hospital! The general election will be held on November 8, 2016.

Accoridng to news outlets, Kelly’s husband was brutally beaten Sunday at a cookout, leaving him with several broken bones and in need of surgery. The Retired US Army Officer, remains in the trauma unit at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston and will have surgery later in the week.

Ojeda was born on September 25, 1970, in Rochester, Minnesota. He was raised in Logan County, West Virginia, and he graduated from Logan High School in 1988. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1989. In 1997, he earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia State College. After 24 years of service, Major Ojeda retired from the U.S Army in 2013. He was a 2014 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 3rd Congressional District of West Virginia. He was defeated by incumbent Nick Rahall in the primary on May 13, 2014.

Kelly Ojeda spoke to the media after her husband was attacked saying, he was attending a cookout Sunday in Logan, when a man asked Richard Ojeda for a campaign bumper sticker. Witnesses said when Ojeda bent down to apply the sticker to the man’s vehicle, the man struck Ojeda with brass knuckles knocking him out. When the man tried to run over Ojeda with his vehicle, several bystanders stepped in to stop the assault.

A man by the name of, Jonathan Porter of the Whitman’s Creek area of Logan County has been arrested as the primary suspect in the incident, although no motive has been provided as of yet.

Her husband has been awarded, two Bronze Star medals, The Bronze Order of the De Fluery Medal, The Distinguished Mountaineer 2005 (Gov Manchin), Distinguished Mountaineer 2012 (Gov Tomblin).

Kelly Ojeda is known to have her hubby’s back. Earlier this year, she talked to the public about him on a social media post, and had this to say:

Just taking a moment to brag on my husband. I don’t do it nearly as much as I should so I decided to take the opportunity to do so now, before the election. Anyone who knows me knows I do not like politics at all. I do, however try to support my husband in almost everything he does. I can honestly say that everything he does is done for the right reasons. Richard Ojeda truly believes that Southern WV can be great again. He is so passionate about doing whats right for the people of our area that he sometimes gets a tiny bit worked up. Injustice isn’t something he tolerates well. I am sure you have all heard him say that he would rather fight than eat. True story! Anyone who has every worked with him knows he doesn’t stop. Some may say if he is elected he won’t accomplish anything because he will be the new guy. I SAY BULL!!! If that is the way our state and country are being ran, I say it’s time for voters to remind elected officials that their purpose is to be representatives for the people, not masters of the people. I can honestly say that Richie’s ability to motivate people is something that should not be overlooked. He is really good at it. Anyway, win or loose I am proud of him. He has worked tirelessly for months to find out what issues need immediate attention. If elected, I have no doubt that these issues will not be ignored.
