Meet the amazing Adrianne Haslet-Davis, she was one of the unfortunate people at the Boston Marathon who was injured when two bombs exploded at the finish line, the bombs were made and activated by Russian brother Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnev, Tamerlan was killed on Friday morning and his younger brother remains in custody.
Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost one foot from the blast, but that won’t stop the dance teacher from getting on her feet and dance like like she never danced before.
Adrianne Haslet-Davis was watching the Boston Marathon with her beloved husband of four years Force Capt. Adam Davis, both were hit by the second explosion, but it was Adrienne who paid the highest price, she opened her eyes and saw the terrible scene she and Adam had woken up to, her foot was practically detached from her body, there was blood everywhere.
“For a little while, it could have been two minutes or 20, I guess, everything seemed to go quiet,” Adrianne said during a phone interview with the Herald yesterday from her hospital bed. “I thought we were fine, until I looked down and realized that my left foot was practically detached. That’s when I started screaming my head off.”
“I remember two people who looked at me laying there, as if I were already dead,” Adrianne recalled. “They just walked by, in shock I guess, but I screamed all kinds of bad words at them just the same.”
Adrianne then looked at her beloved husband and managed to tell him how much he meant to her
“I told my husband I loved him and I was so sorry all this had to happen,” she said. “If this was going to be the last time we saw each other, I wanted him to know how much I loved him. Then I told him we’d make it through this, that I wasn’t ready to leave him yet.”
Adam was riddled with shrapnel but he managed to pull his belt and tightened it above Adrianne’s frightening wound and dragged her from the scene into safety.
Days later when she woke up she told her mom Chauni Haslet who flew from Washington to Boston that her foot felt funny, not it was a mother’s hardest job to tell her child the terrible news.
“My foot feels numb, like it’s asleep,” Adrianne said, through a fog of pain medication. “My foot feels like it’s falling off the bed.”
Chauni then told her..
“Adrianne,” her mother whispered, “dear, your left foot … it’s gone.”
A week has passed and Adrienne Haslet is teaching us a lesson..
“I’ve been better, but I’m doing OK.” When asked about the dark moments, she bellowed, “Hell, yeah, I’ve had plenty. I’ve thrown my walker across the room and haven’t used it yet. But I realized you have to be selfish about the things that matter the most. My husband. The job I love. Dancing is my life. Yeah, having my foot blown off, that really sucks. But I can’t wallow in woe is me.
“I can’t let some (expletive) come along and steal my whole life. So, I’ll dance again. And next year, though I’ve never been a runner, yes, I plan to run the marathon.”
Pretty 32-year-old Adrianne Kathleen Haslet was born on June 26, 1980, to 68-year-old Chauni Haslet and 71-year-old William “Bill” Haslet, we could be wrong here, but we think Adrianne has one amazing brother 36-year-old Timothy.
Adrianne got married to Adam Davis four years ago, she moved to Boston from Seattle and began working as a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Studio in Park Plaza. They have since divorced.
“Dancing for me feels like I’m floating. When I’m dancing, I don’t feel the need to be doing anything else. My joy is complete.”
