There are gay rumors all over the web of the reggaeton king Daddy Yankee, after photos of a man that looks like him kissing another man appeared and were quickly diffused. According to some media, he admitted being gay and asked for privacy, but according to other reports, the 36-year-old singer refuted the rumors in a press conference:
“Now, again to you ignorant ones: the Internet is where the lies become truth and truth becomes myth. Wake up, bobo!”
It is said the rumor was generated after he was asked previously on a press conference his opinion about gay marriage, to which he said:
“I have people on my team who are gay, and I respect them entirely and give them work.”
Daddy Yankee, born as Ramon Ayala, is married to his high school sweetheart Mireddys Gonzalez. Together they have two daughters: 17-year-old Yamilet, 15-year-old Jessealys, and a son: 13-year-old Jeremy.
Their first daughter was born when he was 18 years old, in 1994. The couple has been married since. He doesn’t like to talk about his family because he says that is the only aspect in his life that is not public and that they are like a “little treasure”. He made an exception though.
In 2006 he spoke about his relationship with his wife and children in an interview with Maria Celeste Arraras in the TV show Al Rojo Vivo. He said that his marriage is strong because he and his wife Mireddys are “friends above anything” and that he has tried to avoid other temptations because “weakness is the reason for the downfall of several artists.” As far as we know, he has been true to his first and only love.
Daddy Yankee’s fan actually like Mireddys, they have created many support Facebook pages and a “flog” called miredys-de-dy, where they call her Daddy Yankee’s boss. Daddy himself credits his wife for helping him stay grounded. Mireddys is CEO and Manager of El Cartel Records, her husband’s record company, since 2001.
