The Sopranos star James Gandolfini died at age 51 after a suspected heart attack in his room at the Hotel Exedra on Wednesday, while on vacations in Rome with his family heading to the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily. Gandolfini’s son called the hotel reception for help who immediately called paramedics. Doctors pronounced him dead less than an hour later.
According to Gandolfini’s assistant, Tom Richardson, the actor and his family had spent a ‘beautiful day out together’ in Rome before the tragedy.
James Gandolfini is survived by his wife Deborah Lin, their 9-month-old daughter Liliana Ruth and their 13-year-old son Michael.
Deborah is Gandolfini’s second wife. He was married to Michael’s mother, Marcy Wudarski, for three years until they divorced in 2002. Deborah met his future husband in 2006 but they made their first public appearance at the premiere of the sixth and final series of The Sopranos in March 2007. The couple got engaged during the Holidays in 2007 and announced their engagement in January 2008.
Deborah Lin married the actor just a year later at Honolulu’s Central Union Church in Hawaii over the Labor Day weekend on August 30, 2008. She was wearing a white gown made of Italian lace and the church was decorated with white lilies and rhododendrons. Deborah gave birth to their daughter Liliana Ruth Gandolfini on October 10, 2012. A spokesperson for the actor said he was ‘thrilled’ at becoming a father again.
45-year-old Deborah Lin is a former model, born in 1968 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She appeared in the 1993 TV series Red Shoe Diaries.
