Betty Lieu
Betty Lieu is the wife of congressman and Air Force Reserve Colonel, Ted Lieu –who currently represents California’s 33rd congressional district.
Betty’s husband also serves on the Judiciary and Foreign Affairs Committees and has taken a leadership role in Congress on a number of vital policy issues.
Born March 29, 1969 in Taipei, Taiwan; his family immigrated to the United States when he was three years old. His parents sold gifts at flea markets to make ends meet. Through hard work, saving money, and perseverance, Ted’s family was able to open a gift store in a shopping center. Prior to his career in politics he helped with the family’s small business.
Ted went on to attend Stanford University where he received undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Political Science. A became a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity –he received his law degree Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown University Law Center. He then clerked on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1995 he joining the United States Air Force Reserve –where he served for four years and was promoted to colonel in 2015.
Betty Lieu is a former deputy state attorney general. The two have been married since 2002 and together are the proud parents of two sons, Brennan and Austin.
Betty Chim-Lieu is a Torrance Water Commissioner and a part-time attorney. She is a former Deputy Attorney General in the CA Department of Justice and has worked for both the CA Appellate Court and the Federal District Court.
After more than 10 years of service, Betty termed out as Torrance Environmental Quality and Energy Conservation Commissioner. She is also a board member of CCAIR– Coalition for Cleaner Air.
Betty Lieu is very much involved in her children’s education and according to her CCAIR bio, she serves as the elementary school PTA’s Vice President.
