Clare Cusack used to be married to politician, Michael Gianaris –who represents New York’s 12th State Senate district.



Clare’s former spouse who serves as Deputy Majority Leader is the man who opposed Amazon to build one of its new headquarters, now the tech giant called the project off.

Gianaris was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, on April 23, 1970 –where he continues to reside. He is the product of New York City public schools and graduated from Fordham University and Harvard Law School before setting his sights on a career in public service.

The state senator graduated summa cum laude from Fordham and received a law degree from Harvard. The Democrat was first elected to the state legislature in 2000. He also served as finance chairman of the New York State Democratic Party.

He and ex-wife Clare Cusack tied the knot in 2006 at St. Catherine and St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Astoria, Queens. According to their wedding announcement, they met in 1997 when they were both working for Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

However it is unclear exactly why the two divorced.

Clare Cusack was born 45-years-ago, the daughter of James P. Cusack of South Setauket, N.Y., and the late Margaret W. Cusack. Her father was an administrative assistant at the Isabel Rooney Middle School in the Bronx. Her mother was a teacher at Eastport High School in Eastport, N.Y.

Clare graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo and received a law degree from Fordham. She worked as a litigation associate in the Manhattan office of the law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. According to her LinkedIn, she is currently listed as the General Counsel for New York Bankers Association. She was previously the coordinator, ADR & conflict resolution program and Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law.

The former Mrs. Gianaris is currently in a relationship with a man named, Steve Held.
