Adel Kermiche
Adel Kermiche has been identified as one of the two terrorist attackers who ruthlessly killed an elderly priest at a church in France.
Once again ISIS has made sure to shed innocent blood, this time by killing French priest, Jacques Hamel at Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray.
This latest horrendous and despicable act of terrorism comes as France recovers from a terrorist attack during Bastille Day fireworks celebrations in Nice.
According to outlets Adel Kermiche and his accomplice planned to storm inside the church, once inside they held hostage a couple, two nuns and the priest. Another nun was able to scape and give the alert to authorities but it was too late for the 86-year-old priest –who was forced to kneel right before being getting his throat slit.
According to one of the hostages, Adel Kermiche and his partner made her husband take pictures and video of the ordeal. The woman revealed her husband was slashed second and he had to play dead in order to survive. She said her husband Guy, is currently hospitalized with serious injuries.
She also revealed the attackers began shouting “Allah Akbar” and one of them had a shotgun.
The hostages were able to scape once police arrived and shot dead Adel Kermiche and his accomplice.
Kermiche was only 18-years-old but he had already been under the terrorist radar. The teenager was previously charged with terrorism and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet after two failed attempts to go to Syria, said The Wall Street Journal and AFP.
According to The Sun and French news channel 24, the terrorist – and another – killed the priest during a four-hour period of unsupervised release that Kermiche was granted following the previous terrorist conviction.
According to The Independent, a family friend of Kermiche said that he “grew up in a housing project in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray.”
He is survived by a professor mother and two siblings; a brother and a sister who is a doctor in Rouen.
He had traveled to Syria to try to join ISIS in 2015 by using his brothers passport. Kermiche’s family was aware of his radicalization and had informed French authorities about it in order to stop him from going to Syria.
Earlier this year the teen was arrested for trying to commit terrorist attacks. He then was put under judicial supervision following his arrest and had been required to check in with police on a daily basis.
According to officials, the electronic bracelet was deactivated for five hours a day allowing him to leave the house during the day without surveillance.
Kermiche was killed after reciting a sermon in Arabic while at the altar of the church. The second assailant has been named as 19-year-old Abdel Malik P.
