Joel Cohen
This is Joel Cohen; no doubt he is no stranger to any of you, after all, he and his brother Ethan are filmmakers known as the Cohen Brothers, responsible for such incredible films like No Country for Old Man, Burn After Reading, True Grit, Fargo, Gambit and the list goes on. However more importantly to us is the fact that Joel is the beloved husband of the talented actress Frances McDormand.
Joel David Coen born on November 29, 1954, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. He is the eldest son of Rena Neumann & Edward Cohen. His dad, was an economist at the University of Minnesota, mom was an art historian at St. Cloud State.
He graduated in 1973, fromSt. Louis Park High School and subsequently from Bard College at Simon’s Rock. He also was an undergraduate at New York University for four years.
After graduating from college, Joel was a production assistant on several music videos and industrial films.
His and Ethan’s first project was their 1984 film Blood Simple, where he met Frances who also starred in the film alongside John Getz, Dan Hedaya and Samm-Ast Williams. You know the films that followed.
Frances and Joel have been married since April 1, 1984; together they have one son, Pedro McDormand Coen, who they adopted from Paraguay in 1995.
