Meet Heidi Nelson Cruz

Heidi Nelson Cruz is the wife of Texas Senator, Ted Cruz. As the wife of the Republican party member and presidential candidate, Heidi Nelson Cruz is a potential candidate to become the next First Lady of the U.S.



Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz was born on December 22, 1970 in Calgary, Albert. Cruz attended  Princeton University, where he completed his bachelor’s degree cum laude. In 1995, he completed his Juris Doctor at Harvard University magna cum laude.

Prior to his current career as a senator, Cruz has worked on various committees in government, such as the Committee on Armed Services, Committee on the Judiciary, Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Committee on Rules and Administration, and Special Committee on Aging.

Heidi Nelson Cruz is not the kind of wife who will hide behind her senator husband. The blonde, has worked at the White House and also at Goldman Sachs. But she’s also played the political spouse role to a tee.

Heidi Nelson Cruz is among other things, a wife, a mother and a career woman with ambitions of her own.

Heidi Nelson Cruz was born Heidi Suzanne Nelson, on August 7, 1972.

She is a graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in economics and international relations from CMC in 1994. After graduating from CMC, Ms. Cruz received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, and a master’s of European Business from Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium.

Heidi Nelson Cruz is a former managing director in the Private Wealth Management Group at Goldman Sachs, Texas.

Ms. Cruz began her career as an investment banker with JPMorgan in New York, focusing on international structured finance and subsequently on Latin America mergers and acquisitions.

In 2000, she served on the Bush 2000 Campaign in Austin as one of President George W. Bush’s three economic advisors. She also served in the Administration as the economic director for the Western Hemisphere at the National Security Council at the White House, advising the President and then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. She also is a former director at the U.S. Treasury Department and was special policy assistant to Ambassador Robert B. Zoellick, then Chief U.S. international trade negotiator.

She met her husband in 2000, during the presidential campaign of George W. Bush. The couple married in May, 2001. In 2005 Heidi was reportedly suffering from depression. At the time, Ted Cruz the moving to a new state hadn’t been easy for his wife. The blonde got through the difficult stage with support from her family, prayer and counseling.

The couple are the parents of two children. Heidi Nelson Cruz first gave birth to daughter Caroline Camille in April 2008, . Her second daughter, Catherine Christiane, was born in 2011.

In addition to her private-sector work, Heidi served on the Board of Directors of Living Water International.

The Managing Director at Goldman, Sachs & Co. took a leave of absence to support her husband’s presidential run. On her role in the campaign, she told the NY Times: “It’s very simple. I have no title other than simply Ted’s wife. And my role is very simple, which is doing whatever I can do to help Ted win. Raising money was something that I was able to help do from the get-go. I think the main reason is just because I’m not afraid to ask for money.”
