Nicki Carano Musician Killed by Tree

Was a musician based in San Diego who tragically died over the weekend when a tree fell due to a storm, ultimately crushing her car.



Nicki Carano was on her way to a gig Sunday afternoon when her life was cut short due to a large tree that destroyed her silver Honda on a residential street. The massive pine tree fell during Sunday’s fierce storm and crushed her car and several other cars in Pacific Beach, San Diego.

Reports say, it took firefighters about two hours to cut away enough of the tree to get to the silver car.

Accoridng to close friends, Nicki Carano –who was a singer, dancer, professional drummer and teacher –loved to perform and teach others. Friends and family gathered at the accident site to pay tribute to Nicki Carano.

Nicki Carano was well known in the local scene, she made a name for herself playing with numerous local bands and performing for U.S. soldiers stationed in Iraq.

According to her Facebook page, Nicki Carano attended Clairemont High School in San Diego, California. She worked as a teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts-San Diego, APA Studios and was also part of the teaching staff at Nightingale Music School. She is survived by brothers including: Mike, Joey and David Carano.

According to the APA Studios page, she has an extensive career as a Jazz Dance, Tap, Musical Theater and Drums teacher. She performed with groups including: The Romantics, Dramarama, Kim Carnes, Animal Logic, Lena Lovich and Doc Severson.

Her TV credits include special apparitions on CBS, ESPN, KPBS television specials and appeared in the 20th Century Fox film “TITANIC” directed by James Cameron.

Nicki Carano also lived in Las Vegas where she performed at New York, New York, Paris, Carnival Court, and The Silver Nugget.

She was the lead singer of her current band, Spider Tree. Nicki Carano was an active drummer and a member of a prominent San Diego music family. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, her brother Joey Carano, is a veteran and well-regarded jazz guitarist. David Carano, is also a musician. The Carano Family owns Cass Street Trading Company, a pawn shop in Pacific Beach.
