You might remember Dr. Marvell Scott –who was a well-known weekend sportscaster for WABC in New York City who left his job in 2009 to become a sports physician, according to accounts in the New York Daily News and New York Post.
His summary on LinkedIn reads:
Dr. Marvell Scott, M.D., CSCS, FACM, is a New York-based, board certified specialist in Sports Medicine. Dr. Scott is founder and President of Performance Health, which has offices in multiple locations throughout the greater New York region.
Dr. Scott received his medical education from the Wright State School Medicine located in Dayton, Ohio. Thereafter, he completed his residency at the Mount Sinai – Cabrini Medical Center, also located in Dayton. After his residency, Scott accepted the respected Robert Wood Johnson fellowship from the University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey.
During his service at UMDNJ, Dr. Scott assisted athletes of various level and injury. He served as the staff physician at Rutgers and Princeton. He also treated professional athletes from Major League Baseball and the National Football League.
After his experience with UMDNJ, Dr. Scott decided to found his own company, Performance Health. His years of direct, practical experience provided him with a wealth of insight into what truly represents effective sports medicine. Sports medicine cannot only remain focused on injury treatment. To enable athletes to reach their full potentials, long-term plans must also be developed to prevent additional injuries and health problems.
As it turns out Scott was the target of an alleged $100,000 extortion plot in the Poconos that involved a couple and his stripper girlfriend, 27-year-old Marilyn Normando.
Normando worked as a dancer at Club 15, a gentlemen’s club in Lake Hopatcong, N.J., where she allegedly met and eventually became romantically involved with Scott.
Normando eventually met and teamed up with couple Marie Davenport and Brandon Hill. According to court records, the trio threatened to publicize a video of Scott allegedly snorting a white powdery substance unless he paid the money.
When first contacted, Scott cooperated with them and gave them $5,000 thinking it would be the end of it, however the trio contacted Scott a second time ordering he pay an additional $95,000.
Scott subsequently contacted the authorities, who set up a sting operation. They three of them were caught up.
Scott himself was in trouble with the law when in 2010, he was accused of having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old runaway girl in his apartment in 2008. In 2011, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child and served 20 days of community service, the newspapers reported. At the time, he said he did not know the victim’s age.
