Aaron Feis Hero Football Coach Died Shielding Student from Shooter

Aaron Feis has been named as one of 17 victims from the deadly Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in South Florida.



Feis who worked as a football assistant coach, has been hailed a hero after his actions saved the life of a student but sadly costed him his own life. He coached linemen for the Douglas football team.

According to a statement from the school, Aaron Feis:

‘selflessly shielded students from the shooter when he was shot. He died a hero and he will forever be in our hearts and memories.”

Aaron –a football coach, father and husband –also served as the school’s security guard. Staff from the school told outlets Aaron met with the shooter after he responded to a call about the shooting on the school’s security radio. They last heard him say ‘No, that is not firecrackers.’

Following the shooting in which Nikolas Cruz killed 17 and injured many others, Aaron Feis was taken to the hospital in ‘critical condition’ and was later identified as one of the fatal victims in the shooting rampage. According to reports he took several bullets in order to protect students.

He’s being described as a ‘loving and caring man’ by students.

According to social media info, Aaron Feis was originally from Coral Springs, Florida. He attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas H.S. graduating in 1999. He was listed as working at Broward County Public Schools.

Aaron played center for the high school from 1995 to 1998. He returned to work there in 2002. He served as the school’s JV football coach for 8 years, according to his bio on the football team’s website. Aaron was also the team’s college recruiting coordinator and helped in football operations.

He leaves behind his wife, Melissa Ann Feis and their 8-year-old daughter named, Arielle Lilly.

Aaron and his wife Melissa were married on August 21, 2004; on Hillsboro Mile in Deerfield Beach, FL.
