“The guy came on saying they were looking for sponsorships,” “You know, ‘Please send in $10’ (or $15 or whatever), and if people did that, KBOO would promise never to play ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ So I called him up and pledged my money. I was one of the KBOO sponsors.”

In 2014, Robert Plant turned down a £500 million ($800 million) contract for a Led Zeppelin reunion, while the other members were all in.

The offer to re-form the band was reportedly made by Virgin chairman Richard Branson, a fan of the group, and would have set up dates in three locales: London, Berlin and New Jersey.
“Jimmy, John and Jason signed up immediately,” the source told the paper. “It was a no-brainer for them but Robert asked for 48 hours to think about it. He is the son of Annie and Robert -who worked as a civil engineer and was a Royal Air Force veteran. Plant and sister Alison grew up in Halesowen, Worcestershire.

Robert loved singing and music as a child and wanted to be like Elvis Presley, trying to emulate him at just 10 years old. Plant attended King Edward VI Grammar School for Boys but left in his mid-teens and became interested in blues music. At his father’s behest, Robert began training to be a chartered accountant but quit after 2 weeks and moved out of his parents’ home at the age of 16 to attend college and explore the local blues scene.
He worked for Woolworth’s in Halesowen and Wimpey construction company in Birmingham, and he recorded 3 singles with CBS Records.

While working in construction, Plant began singing with the Crawling King Snakes and other bands, which led to him meeting future Led Zeppelin bandmate John Bonham. Robert and John were in Band of Joy together before they both joined Led Zeppelin.

Plant met Jimmy Page in 1968 when Page was looking for a lead singer for his band, the New Yardbirds; Jimmy asked Robert to join the band after hearing him sing “Somebody to Love” by Jefferson Airplane. Plant eventually grew comfortable performing Zeppelin songs on solo tours, but disappointed fans by stubbornly refusing to reunite for more than an evening with Page and Jones, despite the potential for an unprecedented billion-dollar tour. Who could walk away from not just that cash but that blast to the ego?
