Meet Christopher Morris
Christopher Morris is a seasoned photographer who has gained an international reputation shooting photos from the White House to some of the world’s most vicious war zones.
Currently under contract by Time Magazine. He is also the man who appeared today in a series of videos, one of which shows him being slammed to the ground by one the secret service security staff.
The footage taken by others at a rally in Radford University in Virginia; shows Morris in a heated conversation with the security team member. Morris is told to “get in the pen,” and responds, “f*ck you.” The security team member says “what,” right before the video cuts off. Apparently when things got physical.
He told CNN’s Jim Acosta he was stepped 18 inches out of the press pen before he was slammed to the ground by a member of the security team. The Secret Service provides protection to Trump, and says it is investigating.
Born in 1958 in California, the photojournalist is best known for his war photographs. Morris has been a war photographer in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. He also documented George W. Bush’s presidency for Time.
A 2014 Time article reports the picture that ‘made him’ is a powerful image he made in Panama in 1989. The picture was made in December 1989 during the third day of the U.S. invasion of Panama, and shows U.S. Army Sergeant Raymond Cabacar trying to protect civilians during a gun battle with the Panama Defense Force at the Panama Traffic Directorate. Sergeant Cabacar was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor for his actions that day.
He was one of four foreign photographers in Panama when the invasion started, along with Patrick Chauvel working for Newsweek, Malcolm Linton working for Reuters and freelance photographer José Manuel Rodríguez from Spain. He was there on assignment for TIME.
Accoridng to his website, Christopher Morris attended the Photography Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. He graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science. In 1981 he received an Advanced Studied Scholarship from the International Center of Photography in NY.
The World-Famous Photog has done a number of solo exhibitions, selected group exhibitions, monographs, from political reportage to fashion. He has received over a dozen of awards and has collaborated with Time since 1990. He was a member of Black Photo Agency from 1983 until 2001.
