Darren Drake
Darren Drake has been identified by authorities as one of the eight victims who tragically lost their lives in the most recent terror attack in the U.S.
On Halloween day, Sayfullo Saipov drove a rented truck to pedestrians in Manhattan’s lower West Side. The 29-year-old native of Uzbek sped down a bike path along the Hudson River at 3:03 p.m., authorities say. Then, he rammed a school bus and emerged from the truck pointing guns in the air. As a result he killed eight people and injured at least 20-others.
Drake’s passing was confirmed by his father, James Drake.
33-year-old Darren Drake was an only child. He was originally from New Milford; he graduated from New Milford High School in 2003 and went onto attend Rutgers University.
He is listed as a project manager at Moody’s Investors Service at the World Trade Center. He was also elected to the Milford Board of Education in 2009 –in which at some point he served as president. He stepped down in 2013.
In 2015, he ran on the Republican ticket for an unexpired seat on the Borough Council.
Drake had rented a Citi Bike and was listening to an audiobook during the time of the horrific attack. He was on a 15-minute break from work. He was on a plan to stay fit following weight loss surgery, according to his father.
He is believed to have died from his injuries on the scene. Darren is also survived by his mother, Barbara.
Drake is described by his father as a man who enjoyed learning new things. He was just a few courses away from obtaining a second master’s degree at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken.
