Saleha Mahmood Abedin is the mother of Hillary Clinton’s top aide, Huma Abedin. Abedin serves as Vice Chairwoman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Her daughter has worked her way up from a White House intern to Clinton’s right-hand woman. Recent reports, point Huma Abedin had ties with radical slam ideas after she worked as assistant editor under her mother, Saleha Mahmood Abedin.
Pakistani Saleha Mahmood Abedin was born in 1940. She attended the University of Pennsylvania where she received her Ph.D. She is a former sociology professor who worked at Dar Al-Hekma College in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Saleha Mahmood Abedin gave birth to her daughter in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in 1976. When Abedin was two, she relocated from Michigan to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with her parents, who were Indian Muslim and Pakistani academics.
Saleha Mahmood Abedin is the widow of the late Zyed Abedin. Her now late husband, was Indian. In the early 1970s, he was affiliated with the Muslim Students Association at Western Michigan University.
Their daughter attended a British girls’ school before returning to the United States for college.
Saleha Mahmood Abedin’s husband helped start an international journal called the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs IMMA. After her husband died in 1993, Saleha Mahmood Abedin took over as the director of IMMA and currently serves as editor-in-chief.
Huma Abedin worked part time at the Journal between 1998 and 2009, according to Newsweek. She was listed as assistant editor of the Saudi Arabia-based Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs –which has consistently rejected Clinton’s feminist platform.
40-year-old Huma Abedin began her career as an intern in the White House in 1996, when Hillary Clinton was first lady, and was assigned as back-up to Clinton’s primary aide.
When Clinton later became senator for New York, Abedin worked as her aide and personal adviser – a capacity in which she has remained ever since, participating in Clinton’s presidential campaign of 2008 as well as the current run for the White House.
Nowadays, Abedin handles the majority of day-to-day operations for her boss, from faxes and emails to booking hair appointments and answering her cellphone. She is married to former congressman Anthony Weiner.
According to online info, Saleha Mahmood Abedin is known for her strong advocacy of Sharia Law. A member of the Muslim Sisterhood (i.e., the Muslim Brotherhood‘s division for women), Saleha is also a board member of the International Islamic Council for Dawa and Relief. This pro-Hamas entity is part of the Union of Good, which the U.S. government has formally designated as an international terrorist organization led by the Muslim Brotherhood luminary Yusuf al-Qaradawi.
Speaking about her mother, Abedin recently told Vogue that Saleha Mahmood Abedin “was traveling around the world to these international women’s conferences, talking about women’s empowerment, and it was normal.”
Saleha Abedin is also the mother of Huma’s sister, Heba Abedin and their brother, Hassan Abedin. Saleha Mahmood Abedin is also the grandmother to Jordan, Huma and Weiner’s four-year-old son.
