49-year-old Ellen Schaeffer Brody of Edgemont has been identified as the driver behind the SUV that was struck by the Metro North Train in which six people died Tuesday evening.
Ellen lost her life following the gruesome crash, she was driving a Mercedes SUV when her car impacted by the Metro-North commuter. Ellen stopped at the Commerce Street crossing when one of the gates came down and struck her vehicle.
Ellen who was married and was the mother of three children was heading home from her job at Chappaqua jewelry design shop.
According to her Facebook page, she attended Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville, South Carolina. She’s a graduate from University at Albany, SUNY in Albany, New York. She has listed Hilary Meir as a relative on the social media page. She was married to South African author, Alan Brody and together had two daughters and a son.
Ellen has been described by colleagues and close friends as a wonderful person “a joy to be around with” and those who knew her have call it just a terrible tragedy.
