Meet the killer of 19-year-old Renisha McBride, he is Theodore Wafer. The man from Detroit was arraigned today and his case has been compared to the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

Renisha who lost her life on November 2, after a single blast to her face was shot from Wafer’s shotgun while she sought help, was twice the legal alcohol limit and had traces of ********* in her system when she died but prosecutors say that was irrelevant to the case since Theodore who alleges self defense was in no imminent danger.

Perhaps there will be justice for Renisha McBride after all. Detroit prosecutors have officially decided to charge Theodore P. Wafer, 54 with second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old McBride. All the young woman did wrong was knock on Wafer’s door the evening of November 2nd, likely looking for help after she allegedly got in a car wreck near by. Wafer claimed that he thought McBride, who is Black, was an intruder, and shot her in the face as she stood on his front porch.

Wafer is also charged with possession of a firearm during the attempted commission of a felony or commission of a felony. Prosecutors say there was not enough evidence to back up Wafer’s claim of self-defense

Little is known about Wafer, but here is what we’ve heard so far; he is a homeowner in a suburb of Detroit called Dearborn Heights. He initially told police he thought McBride was trying ot brake into his home and later claimed his gun misfired. He lives alone and there was no evidence of forced entry at his home.

He called the 911 and said to the dispatcher he had “what appears to be a black female” he did not know. The white male is being slammed by civil right groups who are calling for a thorough investigation to determine if race was a a factor in the shooting and ultimately death of Renisha.

The 54-year-old has also been in trouble with the law before, he was arrested by the Dearborn Heights police in 1988 and in 1994 for “traffic offenses” according to State Police records. He also has an ongoing case related to a stalking charge he brought against a woman in 1995.

Theodore Paul Wafer has also lived in Livonia and Dearborn. He is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

Keep posted as the case develops.
