John Mark Karr JonBenet Ramsey’s Killer

John Mark Karr

John Mark Karr is the man who falsely confessed to JonBenet Ramsey’s murder –one of America’s most shocking murder cases, still unsolved.

This year marks the upcoming 20th anniversary of the murder of the tiny beauty queen, JonBenet Ramsey. The six-year-old, was found murdered in her family’s basement on December 1996.

John Mark Karr, then a schoolteacher, confessed to the murder 10 years later in 2006. Karr was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 15, 2006. He was being held on child ****ography charges that originated in Sonoma County, California.

However his confession to Ramsey’s killing was said to be made up and moreover, his DNA did not match that found on the little girl’s underwear.

Colorado authorities said at the time, they weren’t going to charge Karr with the murder.

While some still try to comprehend why would anyone lie about committing a murder, psychologists who study the phenomenon speculate that Karr was looking for attention. He apparently had fantasized so extensively about JonBenet, even claiming that he loved her, that the line between fantasy and reality, for him, has blurred.

Though he was acquitted of charges, a new TV special ‘JonBenét: An American Murder Mystery’ will feature the false killer.

John Mark Karr spoke to the special’s producer, Steph Watts about what happened 20-years-ago. In a shocking transcript obtained by Radar Online, Karr defends his innocence but says he was there when JoBenet died!

Karr claims that the evidence at the crime scene was staged and he was the one in charge of ‘fixing it.’ He told the way JonBenet was found is not the way she died. john-mark-karr-picJohn Mark Karr positioned himself as a sort of “fix-it” guy for whomever murdered the little beauty pageant contestant.

“Her death was an accident. I was with her when she died. But I was not the person who caused it!”

“How she was found, that’s not how she died,” “Where she was found in that basement is not where she died.”

“Something happened to her [and I] had to take care of it,”

He added he will not reveal who was the killer, saying

“I’m going to protect every person that needs to be protected.”

Since breaking into the crime scene back in 2006, John Mark Karr has been suspected of other crimes. In 2007, he was arrested for domestic violence. In 2010 things got even more bizarre as Karr was suspected of starting a child sex cult called “The Immaculates” while living as a woman: Delia Alexis Reich.

Other interesting facts about Karr, include getting married a couple of times. According to online archives, he married a 13-year-old girl in 1984, when he was 19. His first marriage was later annulled.

He married a second time to Lara Karr. The couple had twin daughters but unfortunately died on the day they were born.  Karr attended the University of North Alabama for two years until her dropped out in 2000. He majored in early childhood education.

The 51-year-old currently lives in Thailand.
