Dayna Kalins is the third and last wife of iconic producer, Steven Bochco –who reportedly died over the weekend after years of battling a rare form of Leukemia.



Dayna’s husband is credited with co-creating several of TV’s most popular programs. Born December 16, 1943; the Manhattan native began his career in the mid 60’s as a writer at Universal. At the time he was a student at Carnegie Mellon University –back then known as Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Tech –in 1966 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater.

Bochco quickly ascended becoming a story editor for NBC-TV’s “Name of the Game,” and later for “McMillan and Wife” and “Columbo.”

According to his website, he co-created and executive produced “Hill Street Blues” and “L.A. Law.” Under the banner of his production company launched in 1988, Steven Bochco Productions, he has co-created and executive produced “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” “Cop Rock,” “NYPD Blue,” “Murder One,” “Total Security,” “Brooklyn South,” “City of Angels,” and “Philly” and served as executive producer on “Civil Wars” and “The Byrds of Paradise.”

Through his decade-long career, Steven received numerous awards two Writers Guild Awards, four Peabody Awards, four NAACP Image Awards, three Humanitas Awards, two Edgar Allen Poe Awards, a BAFTA and ten Emmy’s. He was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Television Hall of Fame in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Dayna Kalins and two children. Bochco was previously married to Gabrielle Levin from 1964 to 1969 and to actress, Barbara Bosson from 1970 to 1997. He and Bosson welcomed two children during their 27-year-marriage, Melissa and Jesse Bochco –a producer.

Dayna Kalins and Steven Bochco were married on August 12, 2000. According to CBS, the couple held the ceremony at their Los Angeles home and was only attended by family and friends.

Dayna Kalins –a TV producer –born June 10, 1949; worked for her husband at Steven Bochco Productions. She was previously married as well and from that relationship welcomed a son, Sean Flanagan.

She served as a producer on Over There and by the time the couple tied the knot, she was the president of his television production company, and produced the medical drama “City of Angels.” She was in charge of all development and production at one of the industry’s most commercially successful and critically acclaimed independents.

Dayna Kalins is also an advocated for the environment. In 2007, she marched along a group of ladies to demand a bill on global warming be passed. She was appointed coastal commissioner in 2011.
