Mary Elise Richter Klug is the wife of UCLA professor William Klug, who was identified as the victim of the shooting on campus at UCLA by Mainak Sarkar who then killed himself.



Mary Elise Richter Klug’s husband William Scott Klug (b. June 19, 1976) was a teacher in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, he graduated in 1998 with a B.S., from Westmont College, got his M.S. from UCLA in 1999 and his Ph.D. from Caltech from where he graduated in 2003.

Professor Klug married Mary Elise Richter in December, 1999; together they had two beautiful children Timmy and their little daughter. Timmy Klug, their 10-year-old son a fourth grader enjoyed spending time with his dad and coach of his little league team.

Mary Elise Klug was born September 20, 1975 in Cerritos, California to Katherine Copeland Richter, 71, and Richard George Richter, 78. Award winner Ceramic artist Mary Elise and Bill Klug met while they attended at Westmont College from where she graduated with a major in physics in 1997 and a master’s degree in civil engineering at UC Los Angeles. Her first job was for a government contractor that tested and designed jet engines, she then found a job as an independent aeronautical software engineer and consultant. Mary Elise Klug makes amazing cards, she founded kung-fu kitty cards.

Mary Elise Klug was who encouraged her husband to become a teacher while he was he was working as a teaching assistant at Westmont College.

“I was a teaching assistant at Westmont and held help sessions for students. Mary Elise often sat in on them and told me I should be a teacher,” he says. “She kept talking about it.”

Our most sincere condolences go out to Professor William Klug’s family, friends and students throughout this time of sorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with all of them and specially to Mr. Klug’s wife Mary Elise and her two little children.
