Kara Falkenstein: Today Show Exec Jamie Horowitz’ Wife

What’s worse than losing your job? Losing your job and have the world find out! That’s exactly what happened to Kara Falkenstein’s hubby, Jamie Horowitz, who according to news outlets was kicked out of his new gig at the Today Show even before the start date!

Kara’s hubby had been at the offices about 10 weeks, but NBC had announced in May that Horowitz would start December 1.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that he and NBC News president Deborah Turness,  butted heads during his brief tenure. Sources told The New York Daily News that Horowitz “ran afoul of internal politics and clashed with established executives and talent at the show — who did not like his ideas.”

Things are really not looking up for Kara, who is a mom and also the couple’s only breadwinner! Let’s get to know her better!

37-year-old Kara Elaine Falkenstein is the communications director for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, a nonprofit organization in New York. Prior to that, she used to work as a segment producer at CNBC in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., where she worked on “Morning Call,” a weekday program that covers business news.

Her parents are Lois and Stanley Falkenstein originally from Manchester, Conn. She grew up in Windsor, Connecticut where she attended Loomis Chaffee, graduating in 1995. She continued her studies by attending Colby College, graduating in 1999.

When she met Horowitz, he was an associate producer at NBC Sports in New York; and when the couple tied the knot in 2007 he worked as a senior producer who helps develop original programming for ESPN Original Entertainment in New York.

The couple welcomed their first child in late 2008. They have now two children, two adorable boys, Jake and Will.

According to their wedding announcement , the couple were married during a ceremony performed by L. Sandy Maisel, a professor at Colby College.

Kara worked for about seven years in different positions at NBC Universal Inc., NBC, CNBC before landing her current job at IAVA, she holds a B.A. in political science and studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her father served as a partner at a law firm in Connecticut and her mother as an elementary school tutor.
