Gary Martin was named as the man who went on a shooting rampage at his workplace in Illinois killing five workers and leaving others injured.



Martin -an African American -who worked at the Henry Pratt Company in the Chicago suburb of the Aurora –was actually being fired from his job at the manufacturing business when he went on a shooting rampage Friday.

An hour and half later, the gunman was killed while still being at the facility –in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement officers.

Martin is responsible for leaving five workers dead and five officers and an employee shot and injured, according to reports.

Martin opened fire with a Smith & Wesson handgun at the Henry Pratt Co. As it turns out he had had a number of prior run-ins with the law and was not supposed to have owned a firearm.

Back in 1995, Gary Martin was convicted in Mississippi for aggravated assault. According to updates, he was able to obtain an arm in Illinois in 2014.

In March 2014, he applied to buy a gun from a dealer in Aurora. After a waiting period and passing a background check that did not involve fingerprinting, he bought the gun. Later that month, he applied for a concealed carry permit, and a fingerprint check led authorities to discover the Mississippi conviction. The permit was rejected, and Illinois State Police sent him a letter demanding he voluntarily surrender the weapon. It is clear, he did not.

In addition, he was also arrested in 2008 for a domestic matter. The most recent indecent was in 2017, he was taken for disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

45-year-old Gary Montez Martin shot and killed five co-workers, and also injured several officers as he hid within the 29,000-square-foot warehouse. It is not clear exactly why he was being let go but reports say he first opened fire at a meeting where he was being terminated –killing three people. He killed two others who were nearby.

He had worked at the warehouse for about 15-years. According to a LinkedIn, he was a large valve assembler. His victims have been identified as Clayton Parks, Trevor Wehner, Russell Beyer, Vicente Juarez and Josh Pinkard.

Gary Martin lived in a large apartment complex and neighbors of Martin say he seemed perfectly fine and that he was friendly.
