Baylor University freshman, Kevin Signo, died Sunday morning after he fell and hit his head during a dance rehearsal Saturday night.

18-year-old Kevin Signo was a pre-biology student. He was rehearsing traditional dances with the Filipino Students Association when he practiced a backflip and landed in his head, the school said in a statement. The Waco Tribune-Herald said Signo hit his forehead and suffered a fatal spinal injury. He was rushed to the hospital and put on life support, but at 4:00 am Sunday, the swelling in his brain became extreme and he was taken off life support, fellow dancer Nathan Elequin told student newspaper The Baylor Lariat.

Kevin was from Carol Stream, Illinois; and lived in Frisco, Texas. He had attended Frisco High School before entering to Baylor University, he had plans to become a doctor. He was going to turn 19 later this month. Signo was described as “well-liked” at school and had a strong Christian faith, according to his friends.

His parents, Henry and Jackie Signo, said their son Kevin was an organ donor who understood the value of life. He had a legal document drawn up, donating his eyes, skin, bones and organs.

“He knew exactly what (his organs) could be used for and what was important,” mom Jackie Signo told NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth.

“We’re very happy to have had him for a short time,” his dad, Henry Signo, added.

They said their son was an introvert in high school but blossomed at Baylor, where he enjoyed playing soccer and dancing. He was a member of the group Poppers, Lockers and Breakers. His parents said they want to create a scholarship in his honor.

“Kevin was a very bright, well-liked and involved student on our campus,” Baylor spokeswoman Lori Fogleman told Tribune-Herald. “He had so many friends here who will miss him terribly.”

A funeral service for Signo will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Turrentine, Jackson & Morrow Funeral Home at 2525 North Central Texas Expressway in Allen.
