Ann Queenan Richardson is the proud mother of politician Corey Johnson –who currently serves as the Speaker of the New York City Council.



Ann’s son recently announced he’s mulling a 2021 mayoral race with a self-imposed contribution cap of $250 to limit the influence of big money. Her son is the only HIV positive elected official in New York State.

Corey Johnson was elected the City Speaker on January 2018. His mom was there to show her support, and Corey called her his best friend.

It’s safe to say the mother-son duo have a close bond. Ann Queenan Richardson welcomed her son 36-years ago on April 28, 1982.

Corey attended Masconomet Regional High School –where he as the captain of the football team, made headlines for coming out as gay. From there he became engaged in LGBT rights activism and would later serve as chairperson of Manhattan’s Community Board 4, working on issues including affordable housing, pedestrian and cyclist safety, schools and education.

The 36-year-old previously represented City Council District 3 — which includes the West Village, Chelsea and ****’s Kitchen and chaired Community Board 4 (Chelsea / ****’s Kitchen).

His mother has certainly been an influential figure in his life. Ann Queenan Richardson –originally from Salem, Massachusetts; is a homeless-services provider. According to her social media, she is a Manager at Lifebridge Thrift Shop.

Ann Queenan Richardson and Corey’s biological father, David Johnson –parted ways after Corey was born. She later remarried to the late Rodney Richardson who worked as a teamster. Ann raised her son with the help of her second husband, who Corey recognized as his father. Ann and second husband welcomed two children together, Corey’s half-sibling Melissa and Jason.

According to his obituary, Rodney Richardson passed away on July 2012, following a brief illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
