Delvin Barnes: Suspect in Carlesha Freeland Gaither’s Abduction

With only a few scratches, abducted Carlesha Freeland Gaither can rest at peace once again. In exchange Delvin Barnes was arrested outside of Baltimore on suspicious of her abduction, he is facing federal charges.

After her three-day ordeal, 22-year-old Carlesha Freeland-Gaither is resting at home in Philadelphia, according to Philadelphia’s police commissioner. Law enforcement agents spotted Freeland-Gaither and Barnes in a car with a broken-out back window in Jessup, Maryland. They arrested Barnes after he stepped out of the car.

She was recued and taken at a Hospital Wednesday night where she reunited with her family and then taken home.

According to the Sate’s attorney for the county, Delvin is currently behind bars in suburban Baltimore County. He is due to have a hearing this afternoon on a charge of being a fugitive from justice in Virginia, according to Shellenberger and online court records. Authorities also revealed he is wanted in connection with attempted capital murder, assault and malicious injury with acid, explosives or fire.

He is also accused of abducting a 16-year-old girl who escaped his home two days later naked, bleeding and burned.

37-year-old Barnes used to live in Charles City, VA.; there is no link between him and Carlesha. Barnes grabbed the young lady toward a car Sunday night as she struggled to get away in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood, a surveillance video showed. She was forced into a dark gray four-door vehicle as authorities had released a stream of images over the past two days.

Thanks to the hard work of law enforcements agent and their rapid communication, ATF agents found the vehicle, they had been prompted to be on the lookout for a vehicle that could be involved in Carlesha’s disappearance. A witness to Freeland-Gaither’s abduction Sunday night had said she kicked out some of the car’s windows before the car sped off, the car had its rear window kicked out.

Barnes worked as a stock clerk at Community Supermarket at 1915 Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico for the last four month, store owner Joseph Lee told CBS 6 reporter Sandra Jones.

According to online records, relatives for Barnes include Irene, Quillar and Taz Barnes.
