Artist and songwriter MIA (her full name is Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam), best known for her single “Paper Planes”, is accusing her ex, Benjamin Bronfman, and his billionaire family of trying to take his son away from her.

“BEN you cant take my son away from me ‘The mother” . Just because you have money doesn’t mean you have the right ,” she tweeted on Wednesday.

The tweets were soon deleted, but according to Radar Online she also posted:

“Every child needs the MOTHER , I GREW UP WITHOUT A DAD . If grew up without my mother i wouldn’t be here.”

M.I.A. began her career in 2000 as a visual artist, filmmaker and designer in West London before beginning her recording career in 2002. She has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards and the Mercury Prize.

MIA’s ex and the father of his child is Benjamin Bronfman. They met in Brooklyn, New York, and became engaged. Their son, Ikhyd Edgar Arular Bronfman, was born on February 13, 2009. In February 2012, the couple split.

Bronfman was born on August 6, 1982, in New York City. He is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, and musician. He currently is a Strategic Advisor & principal of Global Thermostat and Algae Systems LLC, a member of the music collective, Teachers, and co-founder of the Green Owl record label.

He graduated in 2000 from The Collegiate School in New York City, then enrolled in Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied Politics and Law, but dropped out. In 2007, he became associate managing director of Global Thermostat, a firm focused on developing a technology for direct air-capture of carbon dioxide. In 2010, Benjamin became a principal and advisor at Algae Systems, LLC, a bio-fuel company that takes waste water from cities to generate Jet-Fuel and Diesel.
