Jeremy Richman, who was known as the father of shooting victim, Avielle Richman –has been found dead.



Jeremy’s little girl was killed in the Sandy Hook School shooting back in 2012. At the time, 20 first-grade students and six educators lost their lives. Richman –who was a scientist –is believed to have committed suicide. He was found in a Connecticut government building.

Following the tragic death of Avielle, Jeremy and his wife, Jennifer Hensel –also a scientist –founded The Avielle Foundation – committed to preventing violence and building compassion through brain health research, community engagement, and education.

According to the website, 49-year-old Jeremy Richman was a neuro-pharmacologist with more than 20 years of research and drug discovery experience. He served as the CEO of the Avielle Foundation and had a Faculty Lecturer appointment in the Department of Psychiatry at Yale’s School of Medicine. He previously worked as a re

searcher at the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim.

After the death of Avielle, he focused his work to the Avielle Foundation. Richman was also involved with Sandy Hook Promise, another foundation that started in the wake of the Newtown shooting.

Jeremy Richman was born and raised in Boulder, Colorado. The husband and father, earned his undergraduate degree and PhD in Tucson, Arizona. He met wife Jennifer, while studying for his PhD in Arizona.

His research experience spanned the range from neuroscience to cardiovascular biology, diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, immunology and inflammation, and kidney disease. Most recently he was into mental health.

After the shooting Jeremy Richman and others went to the Connecticut state legislature calling for fixing a broken mental health care system and removing the stigma from psychiatric illness.

It is believed he took his own life due to post traumatic stress disorder and survivor’s guilt.
