Pam Northam

Have you met Pam Northam? She is the longtime wife of Virginia’s current governor, Ralph Northam. Her husband just defeated Republican Ed Gillespie in the governorship race.

Pam’s husband grew up on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and attended local public schools. According to his website, Ralph is a Virginia Military Institute graduate, Army veteran, and pediatric neurologist.

After graduating from the VMI, Ralph has commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army. He attended Eastern Virginia Medical School and then traveled to San Antonio for a pediatric residency.

Ralph served eight years of active duty and rose to the rank of major. Ralph did his residencies at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and he served as a chief neurological resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital. As an Army doctor, he served in Germany; treating soldiers wounded in Operation Desert Storm.

Discharged as a major, his next move was to build a medical practice in Norfolk, Children’s Specialty Group. He is also a volunteer director of a children’s hospice.

He first ran for office in 2007 in the Virginia 6th Senate district; subsequently re-elected in November 2011. Ralph was elected lieutenant governor in 2013 –after six years in the State Senate.

Pam Northam met her then-future husband in San Antonio. At the time Ralph had been sent to San Antonio for a pediatric residency and Pam; was a pediatric occupational therapist at the same hospital.

She is a native Texan who attended Baylor University and the University of Texas.

Following their nuptials, Pam Northam became an Elementary School teacher. Pam, now a long-time teacher currently works for the local conservation organization Lynnhaven River NOW. According to the Lynnhaven River NOW website, Pam knows how to inspire people and communities to stretch themselves and make a commitment to more sustainable practices and love doing it.

Pam Northam is also the proud mother of the couple’s two children; Wes and Aubrey. Pam’s son Wes, is a neurosurgical resident at the University of North Carolina. Daughter, Aubrey graduated from the University of Virginia and works in communications.

Moreover, the proud wife of the Virginia governor and mother of two, also calls herself on social media, an environmentalist.
