Richard Cohen
Richard Cohen is the longtime husband of TV personality and journalist, Meredith Vieira –best known for being the original moderator of ABC’s The View and her decade-long run on NBC’s Today.
As you may know by now, Meredith and Today co-host Matt Lauer always had a great relationship on the screen but recent sexual misconduct allegations made against Lauer have brought back a segment of Vieira’s talk show in which she recalls her discovery of a bag of sex toys in Lauer’s office.
During a May 2016 segment of her talk show, –Vieira says “You had a huge bag of sex toys, yes you did, in your closet, Matt,” –who was a guess on her show.
And though Vieira and Matt had that kind of work-relationship where he could ask her to bend more so he could see her cleavage, husband Richard Cohen tells TMZ his wife was not offended by Matt’s comment at the time.
While his wife is a famous TV face, Richard is also a noted journalist, news producer and author in his own right.
Richard was born Richard Merrill Cohen on February 14, 1948. The New York native, began his network television news career at ABC News in 1971 as assistant producer of Issues and Answers and floor producer for ABC News at both 1972 political conventions. He went on to a 20-year career in network television news.
Richard Cohen has won three Emmys and has received a number of honors in journalism.
Richard has made news in the past over his health. Cohen was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 25, and has had two bouts of colon cancer. In his book, Blindsided, Cohen recounts his battle with MS. MS has taken its toll on Cohen. He is legally blind and the disease has also attacked his vocal cords, arms and legs. He currently writes a blog called Journey Man.
He is also the author of Strong at the Broken Places, both books are New York Times Best Sellers.
He and Meredith were married June 14, 1986. Together are the proud parents of three grown children, Ben, Gabe and Lily. Their younger son, Gabe Cohen, is a reporter.
