Meng Wanzhou, who also goes by Sabrina Meng is a Chinese national and a top technology executive who has been arrested in Canada.



Meng Wanzhou serves as the chief financial officer of Huawei –the largest global supplier of network gear used by phone and internet companies. She also happens to be the daughter of the company’s founder, Ren Zhengei. Her father founded Huawei in 1983 after retiring from the military.

Her mother, Meng Jun, is the daughter of a former senior official. Her parents are divorced according to the South China Morning Post. Reports say she took her mother’s name in order to avoid attention.

46-year-old Meng Wanzhou who is facing extradition to the U.S. –is involved in an investigation into whether Huawei violated the American embargo against Iran. The exact charges against her have not been made public yet.

Her arrest comes just after President Donald Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and agreed to temporarily halt the trade war between the two countries for 90 days.

According to her Huaweii’s profile, Meng earned master’s degree from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Huawei and Chinese authorities have said Meng has not violated any laws and should be released from custody. Huawei recently passed Apple as the second-biggest manufacturer of cell phones, behind only Samsung Electronics, according to NBC News. U.S.

Meng, currently the company’s CFO and deputy chairwoman of its board, previously held the positions of director of the international accounting department, CFO of Huawei Hong Kong and president of the accounting management department. Meng Wanzhou has worked at her father’s company since 1993.

The technology executive and Huaweii heiress –has been very private about her life and doesn’t give many interviews. According to the South China Morning Post, she has one son, but not much is known about the details of her private life.

Other relatives, include two siblings; brother, Meng Ping and half-sister, Annabel Yao. Meng Ping also works at Huaweii while Annabel Yao is a computer science student at Harvard.
