Andy Spade is the entrepreneur husband of fashion designer Kate Spade –married for decades the couple shares one child together.
Andy’s wife doesn’t need much of an introduction that is if you are into fashion and who isn’t these days right! But behind his wife’s fabulous work is her partner and hubby, Andy Spade –who served as creative director for his wife’s brand.
Katherine Noel Frances Valentine Brosnahan was born December 24, 1962; the Kansas native rose to fame as the co-founder of the Kate Spade New York brand. The former accessories editor at mademoiselle debuted in the early 90’s with a number of handbags which combined sleek, utilitarian shapes and colorful palettes. She later branched out to clothes, shoes, and jewelry.
She met future husband Andy Spade, while working with him at Carter’s Men Shop in Arizona. The couple tied the knot in 1994 and have since welcomed one daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade –who was born in early 2005.
Andy Spade happens to be related to another famous personality that would be his brother, actor and comedian David Spade.
Andy Spade was born December 24, 1962; the Michigan native attended Arizona State University. He began his career working in advertising. Prior to joining his wife’s fashion business he worked with brands including Lexus and Coca Cola.
After meeting Kate in the early 90’s, he helped open Kate Spade Handbags in 1993. The company opened its first store in New York in 1996, and now has more than 300 branches worldwide.
Kate Spade sold her namesake brand in 2007. It was bought by New York rival designer Coach in a deal worth $2.4bn
The couple then set up another design venture, Frances Valentine, named after their daughter. Other ventures for Andy Spade include the opening of storefront and studio, Partners & Spade which opened in 2008. Most recently in 2013, he co-founded the fashion brand, Sleepy Jones.
Sadly, news outlets report Andy Spade has been left a widow following Kate Spade’s apparent suicide aged 55.
