Carole Dowd
Carole Dowd is the loving and supportive wife of high profile lawyer, John Dowd –who until recently served as Donald Trump’s lawyer in the Mueller investigation.
Carole’s hubby was the lead lawyer in the investigations of possible collusion by the Trump campaign with Russia –however, recent reports say he just presented his resignation from the case. His exit comes following his comments to the Daily Beast, saying he hoped Mueller’s investigation would be shut down.
Dowd, was added to Trump’s legal team last June. The veteran Washington lawyer has represented key figures in a variety white-collar criminal matters and investigations. Dowd, 77, represented U.S. Senator John McCain on congressional ethics charges in the “Keating Five” banking scandal in the late 1980s and early 1990s. McCain was cleared in the matter.
Dowd also defended Galleon Group hedge fund founder Raj Rajaratnam in a 2011 trial brought by federal prosecutors in New York over insider trading. Rajaratnam was found guilty and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Earlier in his career, Dowd served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was part of a U.S. Department of Justice organized crime unit. He went into private practice in 1978. He worked for many years at the law firm of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, retiring in 2015. Dowd received his A.B. cum laude from St. Bernard College in 1963 and his J.D. from Emory University in 1965.
John and his wife Carole Dowd have been married for several decades. During their decade-long marriage the couple welcomed five children, two daughters and three sons. John and Carole Dowd are the proud parents to Anne, Sarah, Daniel, Michael and Thomas.
All of their five children are married making John and Carole Dowd grandparents to at least 11 grandchildren.
Carole Dowd was born Carole Lockwood Folts in Tennessee, she grew up in Chattanooga, atop Lookout Mountain; one of four children born to Aubrey Fairfax Folts and Frances “Frank” Ingram Lawson. Her siblings are Jennie Frances Crowley, Lavens Douglas Folts and Liane Stuart Holt. According to an obituary from July 2016, her brother, Lavens Douglas Folts passed away aged 81, he was also known as Colonel Folts.
The family has spent several summer at Cape Code and Carole Down has also come to love New England, her hubby’s hometown. But the Dowds’ home base is Vienna, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
