Meet Christine DeGuisto

Christine DeGuisto is the wife of Veteran Bronx detective, Joseph Lemm. Her husband tragically lost his life, after a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden motorcycle into his unit.

Joseph Lemm, also a staff sergeant in the Air National Guard, was killed Monday in the suicide bombing in Afghanistan that claimed the lives of five other U.S. service members.

Two other American soldiers and an Afghan soldier were wounded, military officials said.

The tragic deaths, were confirmed by Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Monday night. Bratton said of Christine DeGuisto’s husband “he epitomized the selflessness we can only strive for: putting his country and city first.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio also, released a statement paying tribute to Lemm.

According to Newsday, the attack, which occurred at a joint NATO-Afghan patrol, was believed to be the deadliest attack on international forces since August.

Joseph Lemm is surivived by his wife, 42-year-old Christine DeGuisto and their two children, 17-year-old daughter Brooke and 4-year-old son, Ryan.

Christine’s husband was a NYPD officer serving in the U.S. Air National Guard and a member of the 105th Airlift Wing out of Newburgh.

The 45-year-old Nebraska native, who was promoted to detective in January, 2014. Prior to that, he had served in the Bronx Warrant Squad, according to media reports. The hero soldier, had been deployed three times to serve in the military overseas. Twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq since he joined the NYPD.

Lemm regularly posted images of his family outings to his Facebook page. He was featured in a 2013 News 12 report on his surprise return from Afghanistan. He said of the reunion

“I’m spending time with the family, of course,” adding “I can’t wait for pizza and a nice burger.”

According to her Facebook profile, Christine DeGuisto graduated Harrison High School in 1991 in Harrison, New York. She then attended Pace University in NY. She worked at HBTC and for National Realty & Development Corp.

The family of four, resides in West Harrison in Westchester County. Christine DeGuisto has one sister, Kimberly DeGuisto Arnette.
