Ashley Hasti UCLA Shooter Mainak Sarkar’s Girlfriend

Ashley Hasti is the girlfriend of UCLA student/shooter Mainak Sarkar. Her boyfriend has been identified by police as the man who opened fire on campus yesterday, killing one.

Sarkar is guilty of  fatally shooting his former professor inside an engineering building on the University of California, Los Angeles campus and then committing suicide. The shooting led to lockdowns throughout campus and militarized patrols, including a widespread SWAT search.

His victim was identified as 39-year-old engineering professor and father of two, William Klug.

Reports say, the shooting took place earlier in the day while students were giving end-of-the year presentations and taking their final exams before the summer recess. The L.A. Police chief also said a note had been found at the scene.

According to COED, Dr. Mainak Sakar had some impressive credentials. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, completing a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He worked for Infosys LTd. in Bangalore, India, from 2000 to 2001. After coming to America, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Texas from 2002 to 2003. Then, in 2005, he graduated from Stanford University with a Masters in Aeronautics and Astronautics. Also in 2005 to 2007, Sakar worked as a software developer at Lucid Technologies.

During his time at UCLA, Sakar was a teaching assistant for undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering. These courses included Finitie Element Analysis, Statics and Dynamics, and Applied Mathematics.

Maniak Sarkar wrote on a now deleted, blog entry about his differences with professor Klug. On March 10, 2016 Sarkar wrote:

William Klug, UCLA professor is not the kind of person when you think of a professor. He is a very sick person. I urge every new student coming to UCLA to stay away from this guy.

My name is Mainak Sarkar. I was this guy’s PhD student. We had personal differences. He cleverly stole all my code and gave it another student. He made me really sick.

Your enemy is your enemy. But your friend can do a lot more harm. Be careful about whom you trust.

Stay away from this sick guy.

It’s clear Sarkar, the former engineering PhD student had a motive for the killing. Klug and Sarkar were pronounced dead at the scene.

As for his girlfriend; Mainak had several photos on his Facebook page with a woman named Ashley Hasti. The alleged couple had known each other for years, at least since 2008.

According to Ashley’s Facebook, she attended the University of Minnesota in 2008, she also studied at Scripps College back in 2010 for a Premedical Certificate. She dropped out from University of Minnesota Medical School earlier this year.

Ashley Hasti works as a tutor at North Hennepin Community College.

There are no recent photos of the couple together, so there is a possibility they weren’t dating at the time of the shooting. It appears they were a couple from 2008 until 2011.
