Indie singer Jason Molina, best known for his work fronting the bands Songs:Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co, has died on Saturday at age 39 from alcohol abuse-related organ failure. He had been suffering health problems for a while. His family and the label Secretly Canadian set up the “Jason Molina Medical Fund” to support him. In May 2012, Molina told fans:
“Treatment is good, getting to deal with a lot of things that even the music didn’t want to. I have not given up because you, my friends, have not given up on me. I do still need your support however that takes shape, good vibes are worth more than you might think.”
Jason Molina was married to 35-year-old Darcie Schoenman Molina from Pittsburgh. She is also known as Darcie Lynn Schoenman and Darcie Molina. She graduated from Indiana Bloomington University in 1999, and from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1995. The couple lived in Indianapolis, IN.
Molina stopped touring in 2009 due to health reasons but continued to write music until his death.
