Meet Melodie Gliniewicz

Melodie Gliniewicz is the wife of slain officer in Fox Lake, Lt. Joseph Gliniewicz. Her husband was a 30-year-veteran who was known by colleagues as “G.I. Joe.”



Lt. Gliniewicz radioed to dispatch before 8 a.m. local time Tuesday, he was chasing three male suspects engaged in suspicious activity, ABC7 reported he then lost contact with the dispatchers and was ultimately gunned down during the foot chase, according to Lake County Sheriff’s spokesman.

Gliniewicz was found by backup officers who said he was injured and stripped of his weapon and pepper spray. He died at the scene from gunshot wounds. A massive manhunt with police officers searching the area has been continuing since last night for three people (two white and one black male) believed to be responsible for fatally shooting Melodie Gliniewicz’s husband.

According to Fox Lake Mayor Donny Schmit, Joe Gliniewicz had been talking about retiring as soon as this month. He was 52.

According to The Chicago Tribune, Joe was known in local law enforcement for his work with aspiring police officers, he had been a member of the police force for the past 32-years.

A retired police officer and friend of Joe said

“This should never happen. Joey just loved his job. Loved his job, loved his kids, loved his wife, and he loved those explorers” –a reference of Joe’s support to the program for young people that explore careers in law enforcement.

Melodie Gliniewicz was born Melodie A Resetar, she is 51-years-old. According to her FB page, she is self-employed. She and Joseph were married for 26-years. Melodie and her late husband are the parents of four sons: David, D.J, Jeffrey and Joseph Gliniewicz.

Son Joseph Gliniewicz, attended Antioch Community High School Class of 2009 · Antioch, Illinois and College of Lake County; Grayslake, Illinois.

D.J. Gliniewicz has been in the U.S. Army since 2011 while son Jeffrey Gliniewicz graduated Antioch Community High School last May.

Following Gliniewicz’s fatal shooting, local schools were put on lockdown to protect student and teachers.

The three suspects are still at large, and are being searched for on land and by helicopter, they are considered armend and dangerous.
