Mavis Wanczyk is the lucky woman from Massachusetts who became a millionaire after hitting the Lottery’s Powerball jackpot! She won the largest single-ticket Powerball prize in US history.



53-year-old Mavis bought the winning ticket at a Pride Station and Store in Chicopee, MA. –Never imagining she would become its $758 million prize winner. Her identity was revealed Thursday as she came forward to claim her check.

Mavis Wanczyk could not believe her luck when she matched all five numbers – 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26 – and the Powerball, 4. Mavis was definitely destined to win after she told media she chose the numbers based on family’s birthdays.

Mavis took her mother, Marsha Costa and her two sisters to the news conference. She also revealed the million dollar question saying she would not be returning to work and would use the money to retire early –her dream come true.

Mavis –who goes by Mave was a former hospital worker and is the mother of two adult children. She attended Springfield Technical Community College, and worked for over three decades at Mercy Medical Center in Chicopee.

According to her social media, she is a Southbridge, Massachusetts, native who moved to Springfield when she was 14 and now lives in Chicopee.

She was married to William Wanczyk but was separated when he died tragically in 2016. Her ex-husband who was 55, was hit by a truck while waiting on a bus stop, last year. The former couple produced first born is 31-year-old daughter, Marlee Wanczyk and 26-year-old son, Billy Wanczyk.

Mave worked her last day at Mercy Medical Center after her co-worker told her she had won the jackpot. Mavis and a co-worker were driving home and as he looked at her ticket, he told her she’d won.

When asked about her financial situation, Mavis revealed she has been doing ‘ok’ adding she is not the richest person in the world but neither the poorest.

Mrs. Wanczyk chose to take a lump sum payment of $480 million –which is what most people do. She will be left with $336 million after taxes.
