Atticus Honore is the boyfriend of slayed Kathryn “Kate” Steinle –a San Francisco woman who was killed in broad daylight in San Francisco back in 2015.
The Steinle homicide has since spurred a national debate on sanctuary city laws and the role of local law enforcement when dealing with federal officials.
Atticus’ girlfriend was shot in the back in July 2015 as she walked with her father on San Francisco’s Pier 14, near Embarcadero and Mission streets.
Kathryn’s father James Steinle told a detective that he and his daughter were accompanied by a family friend when the fatal shooting took place. The three of them had gone to the San Francisco Ferry Building and were just partaking in “tourist stuff” prior to the shooting.
Less than an hour after the fatal shooting, which occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on July 1, San Francisco police arrested Jose Ines Garcia-Zarate, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, on suspicion of murder after detaining him a couple blocks away. Garcia Zarate is a seven-time felon who had been deported five times and freed under sanctuary laws before the fatal shooting.
More than two years after her death, reports now reveal, Garcia-Zarate was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges.
Atticus Honore is a regular fella based in San Francisco, however following the tragic death of his then girlfriend, his name is now forever tied to the tragedy.
Atticus Honore and Kathryn lived together prior to her death. He cooperated with detectives following the shooting, giving them photographs from his girlfriend’s cellphone to help with the investigation.
