Joy Lane is the woman who used to be in a relationship with suspect killer, Steve Stephens –the man who snapped on Easter Sunday killing at least one man and then posting a video of the killing on Facebook.
Police in Cleveland launched a massive manhunt after Stephens posted the video of him shooting an elderly man. On Sunday night they said that the search now includes Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Michigan.
According to authorities, Steve shot 74-year-old Robert Godwin in the city’s Glenville neighborhood at 2 p.m. — uploading the video with the title “Easter day slaughter.”
Stephens who is described as a bald, 6-foot-1, 244 pounds black male, revealed in subsequent videos that the sick killing was happening ‘due to his girlfriend’ Joy Lane.
He goes onto say, Lane is the love of his life and that the two were supposed to get married but they had some sort of fallout after he ‘lost everything.’
The 37-year-old also flashed his badge on Facebook, saying he was a caseworker for the behavioral health agency Beech Brook.
Lane who also goes by Joy Carr wrote on Facebook
“This is the fastest way to update everybody. I am safe and with the police. I am Not okay… this is a lot. I can’t believe this is happening. I am very sad for everyone involved. I am praying for them and I am praying for Steve. He needs help.”
On her account which has now been deleted, she also showed photos of the two together during happier times.

The single mom holds a master of science degree from Case Western Reserve University in Social Administration /Non Profit Management and received her bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University in sociology and criminal justice.
Joy Lane, who is said to be in protective custody and cooperating with police, confirmed that she and Steve had been in a relationship for several years, and sent her condolences to the family of Steve’s victim.
She broke her silence in a text message to CBS News saying “We had been in a relationship for several years. I am sorry that all of this has happened. “My heart & prayers goes out to the family members of the victim(s),” she said.
Joy even had nice things to say about her ex-boyfriend
“Steve really is a nice guy… he is generous with everyone he knows. He was kind and loving to me and my children. This is a very difficult time for me and my family.”
Joy Lane and Steven were in a relationship for approximately three years. It is not clear what happened between the couple.
Stephens said he would kill as many people as possible before he was caught. He claimed on Facebook that he had murdered other people on Easter Sunday, but police have found no evidence of that so far.
