Jordyn Walker is a teen from Missouri who was left blind last year following a mysterious illness she contracted during a family cruise.
What was supposed to be a memorable time for Jordyn and her family turned into a nightmare now that the teenager has lost her sight permanently.
It was after she returned home from a cruise last summer, that Jordyn Walker experienced ‘severe stomach pain, vomiting and bloody diarrhea’ –she was rushed to the ER where she suddenly lost her vision. After waiting a few hours to be examined, doctors had to cut slits by her eyes to detach her eyelids and to try and open the eye socket in order to reduce swelling.
As a result of the mysterious condition, Jordyn also lost her sense of taste and smell. Doctors were left baffled over what has caused the mystery condition or how to cure it. They told her it was probably a once in a lifetime episode and that most likely it wouldn’t happen again.
Despite recovering from her initial illness, according to reports, Jordyn suffered a relapse just before Christmas, this time it was worse than ever. Her face turned purple and bruised and swollen with blood. She spent 16 days at the hospital and had two surgeries to relieve the swelling that had concentrated around her eyes –leaving her with permanent sight loss. She had facial reconstruction surgery to replace her orbital bones around her eyes. The next day she was told she would no longer be able to see.
Prior to her ordeal, 15-year-old Jordyn was an active high school student. She served as editor of her high school paper and also competed in the archery team.
