Sharon Huddle Deangelo is the wife of Joseph James DeAngelo –a 72-year-old former police officer who is accused of being the Golden State Killer.

For those in their 50’s and 60’s you may remember a serial rapist and killer who terrorized residents in the Bay Area, Sacramento area and Southern California in the late 1970s –dubbed the Golden State Killer –who is to blame for at least 12 homicides, 45 rapes and more than 100 residential burglaries between 1976 and 1986.

His crimes began in the Sacramento area in 1976, and included the February 1979 killing of Brian and Katie Maggiore who were fatally shot while walking their dog in Rancho Cordova.

At the time no one was arrested for the crimes but like the old saying says, “Is never too late for justice” Joseph James DeAngelo was taken into custody earlier today. DNA evidence developed in the past few days led to his arrest. Police had been outside his home in Citrus Heights since Tuesday afternoon.

DeAngelo worked at Auburn and other police departments in the 1970s; according to Mercury News, he lived for more than three decades on a quiet suburban street in Citrus Heights. Shockingly, DeAngelo went to trial back in the 70’s for a shoplifting case –and was convicted to six months’ probation and a $100 fine.

According to a Sun article, DeAngelo is a native of Bath, New York who served in Vietnam after graduating from Folsom Senior High School in June 1964. He competed an associate’s degree with honors in police science at Sierra College. He then graduated from California State University at Sacramento with a degree in criminal justice.

In 1973 he tied the knot to Sharon Marie Huddle as reported by the Sacramento Bee. Online records show Sharon Huddle is currently a resident of Granite Bay, CA; and previously lived in Citrus Heights, CA and Roseville, CA. The couple were married at Auburn First Congregational Church.

She was born December 23, 1952. She is also known by the names Sharon M DeAngelo, Sharon M Angelo and Sharon J DeAngelo.

Sharon Huddle Deangelo is an attorney believed to be retired. It is believed the two welcomed at least three children during their marriage –including a daughter in her 30’s. However, Sharon Huddle Deangelo and Joseph James DeAngelo were divorced at some point. It is not clear when exactly the former couple split or the reason why. Sharon’s former husband is currently on suicide watch.
