Elizabeth Jackson the mother of One Life to Live” star Nathaniel Marston wrote on her Facebook that her beloved son passed away in her arms. Mrs. Jackson has been posting updates about her son’s condition ever since he severely injured in a car accident near Reno, Nevada.
Nate apparently fell asleep while driving, when he awoke he over-corrected and his truck flip several times, he wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his car through the windshield. He suffered a broken neck, shoulder, ribs, five vertebrae and other internal injuries. According to mom Elizabeth, Nate underwent a surgery on Nov. 4; she added that in the early morning hours of November 5 his heart stopped on two separate occasions requiring doctors to use an external pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat,. Marston was also fighting pneumonia, a heart infection and irregular pulse.
Three days later, Mrs. Jackson posted another update stating that on November 8. Nate was less responsive. Doctor’s drilled two holes in Marston’s head to drain fluid and reduce pressure on the brain to avoid brain damage. Two days later she wrote that there had been no change in Marston’s condition and there was still fluid in his brain despite surgery to relieve the fluid and pressure and avoid brain damage. Doctors were no longer optimistic that Nathaniel would regain use of the upper half of his body. Because of the remaining fluid on his brain Nathaniel would undergo another surgery on Wednesday, November 11. He didn’t make it and passed away. He was 40.
“My beloved and cherished son, Nathaniel Marston, who was putting up the good fight until last night was not able to continue due to the traumatic and devastating nature of his injuries. Nathaniel passed away peacefully as I held him in my arms,”
“Had Nathaniel lived he would have required a ventilator and would never have been able to utter one more word and would have been sentenced to life as a quadriplegic. A condition that Nate would have never been able to tolerate,”
