Jai Gillum

Jai Gillum is the lovely wife of Mayor Andrew Gillum, who is running for Governor of Florida.

Jai Gillum’s husband currently serves as mayor of Tallahassee and if he were to become Florida’s governor he would be the state’s first black governor.

Andrew Gillum was born in 1979 in Miami and raised in Gainesville, Florida. The fifth of seven children born to a construction worker and a school bus driver –attended Florida A&M University.

In 2003 he was elected as a city commissioner in Tallahassee, Florida, and held the post for 10 years. He was elected mayor of the state’s capital in 2014 and is still in the post.

Jai Gillum is currently employed at the Florida Dental Association where she serves as the Director of Foundation Affairs. The Montgomery, AL; native previously served as Director of Income & Health Strategies for the United Way of the Big Bend.

She received both her undergraduate degree and Master of Public Health degree from Florida A&M University. R. Jai also served on both the Florida Commission on the Status of Women and the Tallahassee/Leon County Commission on the Status of Women & Girls.

She has a degree in biology and has worked in banking in Dallas, Texas. She initially wanted to go into dentistry but then decided she wanted to attend grad school to study something in the public health or public policy arena.

She met her hubby while participating in student government at Florida A&M. The couple began dating several years after their first encounter and have been married for a few years now.

Together they are the proud parents of three children. R. Jai Gillum is the mother of twins, Jackson Bailey and Caroline Jai –born in 2014; and of son Davis Allen Gillum –born in 2017.
